The automotive course offered at the College is designed to be challenging, fulfilling, and worthwhile. The course is highly popular with many of our students who have a genuine interest in cars and mechanics and are wishing to turn this into a career.
Students who study automotive complete professional training in our purpose-built workshops, ensuring both a practical and theoretical knowledge of mechanical systems and components. Students gain hands-on understanding in automotive mechanisms, the inner-workings of engines, vehicle maintenance and repairs, mechanical diagnostics, technology and construction, and workshop safety procedures and regulations. Students get the opportunity to work on a range of vehicles, including agricultural machinery, buses, floats, and road vehicles, which gives them a solid grounding going forward to successful employment, apprenticeships, or further studies.
“I really enjoy learning automotive at the College; you get a lot of hands-on experience and know how. The lecturers are switched on and very informative, they show you all kinds of things, like how to pull apart, fix and recondition components. I would like to go into the automotive industry when I finish school, and I am hoping to get an apprenticeship as a heavy diesel mechanic“. Jon Hunter (Year 11 student, 2015)
