Principal Report
Dear Parents, Guardians, Friends and Students,
Miss Tracey and I addressed the students at our Liturgy and Induction presentation Week 2 during their induction about Edmund Rice, our Catholic faith, our Core Values of respect, honesty, excellence, and tolerance, the House Names and meanings, as well as College Behaviour Expectations. As the term unfolds, we will consistently remind them of these values and expectations. We will recognize their efforts in embodying them throughout the College.
In the initial three weeks, we’ve provided various opportunities for both new students and the entire College community to discuss our expectations for the upcoming year. By keeping these values at the forefront of all our interactions within the College, we aim to foster a positive and inclusive environment. Our goal is to build on the strengths of our College community and reinforce these values continually.
I want to emphasize that for those students who consistently struggle to adhere to these values and follow the guidance provided by our staff, we will issue challenges and support to help them grow.
Let’s take a closer look at each of our core values:
Excellence
We firmly believe that every student possesses the potential to achieve excellence in both their academic and personal pursuits. Striving for excellence empowers us to realize our full potential, develop our skills, and make meaningful contributions to society. We encourage our students to set high aspirations and work diligently to attain them. To promote excellence, we offer a supportive and challenging learning environment, where our dedicated teachers inspire critical thinking, creativity, and innovation. During the beginning of this term, we will support our students in their pursuit of academic and personal growth, recognizing and celebrating their achievements.
Respect
Our community is committed to inclusivity and recognizing the faith traditions, diversity, and rights of each individual. We take responsibility for caring for our unique rural environment and strive to act justly in stewardship of our resources. We emphasize respecting others and their rights, which leads to a harmonious and just environment.
Tolerance
Our community is dedicated to serving our families and the broader community with a spirit of tolerance and hospitality. We celebrate diversity and aim to uplift those at the margins, ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging.
Honesty
Our community fosters an environment that allows for free expression, devoid of prejudice and conflict. We promote personal growth and healthy relationships through honest communication.
We’ve witnessed our students demonstrate dedication to personal growth, academic achievements, and inclusive practices, reflecting the teachings of Jesus Christ and our Christian heritage. We wholeheartedly celebrate their efforts and commitment to these values.
We recognize that our partnership with parents and guardians is vital to our students’ success. We believe in our motto, “Stronger Together.” If you ever have concerns about your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the College. We’ve established a clear communication process to address any issues or questions:
- In the first instance, contact your son or daughter’s classroom teachers or house parents. They are often best positioned to address your concerns promptly.
- If you still have concerns, reach out to our Pastoral Services Coordinators or Boarding Team Leader.
- For boarding-related matters, the Head of Boarding is the next point of contact.
- If issues persist, consider contacting the Deputy Principal.
- Finally, if necessary, feel free to reach out to the Principal.
No concern or question is too small or insignificant. Early communication is often the key to resolving issues effectively and ensuring the best possible experience for your child.
God Bless,
Marie Barton
Principal
College Prayer
We pray that God may bless us in all our undertakings today.
May we keep tolerance and honesty in our hearts, and respect and excellence in our minds throughout this day.
As our founder Blessed Edmund Rice inspired us, let us offer hope and opportunities through education.
May we always keep the teachings of Jesus in mind.
Stronger together.
Amen

Nurturing Potential and Celebrating Success at Edmund Rice College
“Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” – Matthew 13:32
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
As we delve into the heart of the school year, it is a pleasure to update you on recent events and upcoming activities at Edmund Rice College.
Edmund Rice College vs. Quinns Baptist College Inaugural AFL Match
Our recent inaugural AFL match against Quinns Baptist College was a resounding success and a testament to the talent, sportsmanship, and camaraderie that our students exemplify. It was a great day, filled with fierce competition on the ground, but also marked by the wonderful connections formed between students from both schools. The day showcased not only the prowess of our athletes but also the remarkable college grounds and the opportunities that Edmund Rice College offers students.
A special mention goes to the dedicated student ambassadors who selflessly volunteered to guide our visitors, assist visiting staff and students, and lead both schools in an opening prayer and acknowledgment of country in a circle before the games began. At the conclusion of the matches, several students stepped into the circle to extend heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the ERC community to our visitors, recognizing their sporting skills and the spirit of camaraderie displayed throughout the event.
The day was capped off with a shared lunch for both schools and their staff, and our students had the opportunity to unwind with a well-earned swim. It was a day that celebrated the values of sportsmanship, respect, and friendship, reflecting the very essence of what we stand for at Edmund Rice College.
Hay-Carting for Our College Community
Later this week, we will commence hay-carting, a hands-on activity that brings our community together in a display of unity and teamwork. Our students will be involved in carting and stacking hay. This endeavour will culminate in a shared BBQ lunch, allowing our students to enjoy the fruits of their labour and, of course, a well-earned swim in the afternoon.
Women in Trades: SALT Workshop
We are proud to highlight the importance of empowering our young women from years 8 to 12 through a SALT workshop scheduled for Wednesday, November 1. This workshop is designed to equip our young women with essential trade skills, enabling them to pursue success in their VET certificates and beyond. It is a crucial step in breaking down stereotypes and ensuring that all our students have the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in their chosen paths.
We look forward to seeing our young women flourish and expand their horizons through this workshop.
As we reflect on these recent events and anticipate the exciting activities ahead, we are reminded of the growth and transformation that can occur within our college community, much like the mustard seed’s journey to become a flourishing tree. Our students are the embodiment of potential, and we are here to nurture, support, and guide them on their journey to success.
Thank you for your continued support of Edmund Rice College, and we look forward to sharing more news and achievements in the coming months. If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our dedicated staff.
